The language used in Taekwondo is Korean.
Taekwondo comes from Korea, and as such Korean is its ‘official’ language. Taekwondo students must learn a number of words and phrases in Korean as part of their training. Mostly this is the names of the different movements.
Most students learn from lists of vocabulary where the words are written out phonetically, but some students will learn Hangeul – the script used for the Korean language – and may even learn some conversational Korean.
Korean words are also used in competitions to tell the competitors to start, stop, and separate, and also to award points.
